GrainGrowers members are being encouraged to vote in the current Southern Region Director election and attend the virtual Annual General Meeting on 8 October.

GrainGrowers Chair Rhys Turton said the Board election has three candidates - Fiona Marshall (Mulwala NSW), Derek Schoen (Corowa NSW) and Ashleigh Brooks (Dimboola VIC) - standing to fill two vacancies for the Southern Region.

Mr Turton said the vacancies have occurred with Julia Hausler retiring having served a maximum three terms, and with Ms Brooks retiring by rotation and re-nominating for a position on the Board.

“As a grower focused organisation, we have been fortunate to attract high quality candidates that bring together a breadth of industry experience and a commitment to strengthening the industry. I would also like to thank Julia for her commitment and contribution to the industry during her time on the Board.”

Mr Turton said members are also being asked to consider some proposed changes to the constitution.

“Members have been provided with details to consider these changes which have been proposed to meet legislative requirements, conform with good governance practices improve clarity and remove ambiguity,” he said.

Mr Turton said the AGM was an opportunity for members to be updated on activities for the 2024-25 year, vote for Board Directors in the Southern Region and to have their say on proposed changes to the constitution.

“Over the past 12 months GrainGrowers has been very active in advocating for the interests of members and driving change across the industry. While an AGM may not be a highlight to every member, it does allow reflection on the direction being taken and the ways GrainGrowers is addressing the challenges and opportunities facing the industry.”
