New South Wales and Western Australian grain growers are encouraged to participate in a workplace survey designed to better understand current remuneration practices for key on-farm positions.

The pilot survey, conducted by GrainGrowers, will conclude on 9 June. Growers in those states involved in the pilot will be provided with a link to the survey. The survey is also available through the GrainGrowers website.

GrainGrowers CEO Shona Gawel said feedback from successive GrainGrowers Annual Policy Surveys identified workforce availability as a significant challenge in the Australian grain industry.

She said the pilot survey will provide data on how growers compensate key employees, including farm workers, truck drivers, and farm managers.

"We intend to analyse the data gathered and develop an appropriate industry-based resource. The information will enable growers in New South Wales and Western Australia to benchmark their staff's remuneration against their state and assist them in becoming employers of choice."

GrainGrowers National Policy Group member and grain grower from Narembeen (WA) Renee Lynch said participating in the remuneration benchmarking survey is about more than numbers.

"This is about ensuring we have the information to create an environment where workers feel valued and motivated to grow with us."

"By participating in this survey, we can gain insights into remuneration levels, helping us attract and retain skilled workers who are vital for the future of our industry," Ms Lynch said.

Ms Gawel said that if growers are to become employers of choice, a deeper understanding of current industry standards is required.

"This survey is an important part of this process, and I would urge growers in New South Wales and Western Australia to set aside time to participate. We appreciate how busy they are but by taking part, we will have useful information to share with growers," she said.

The survey should take around 10 minutes to complete. The survey will close on Monday 9 June at 11:59 pm (AEST) 2025. Responses received by this date will be entered into the draw for the chance to win one of five Gift Cards worth $200 each.

Respondents will also receive a copy of the Remuneration Benchmarking Report to allow them to compare their own employees’ remuneration with the other employees at grain growing operations.
