GrainGrowers members are being encouraged to have their say on major changes for the national representative body, with voting now open for both the Western Region Director election and proposed constitutional changes designed to strengthen advocacy for Australia's grain growers.
At the Annual General Meeting on 7 October, members will vote on a special resolution to amend the GrainGrowers Constitution, creating a pathway for State Farming Organisations to apply for membership of GrainGrowers.
GrainGrowers Deputy Chair Nigel Corish said the proposed changes allow for a stronger and more united voice on issues that matter most to growers.
"Grain growers continue to be impacted by national policy issues, from biosecurity and supply chain vulnerabilities to workforce and regulatory reform," Mr Corish said.
"The proposed constitutional changes would provide a framework for GrainGrowers and State Farming Organisations to work more closely together on issues of shared importance, helping deliver stronger and more coordinated advocacy for growers.
"By strengthening collaboration across the industry, we can improve our ability to advocate on behalf of growers and ensure their interests are represented where decisions are made.
"Importantly, the proposal does not change the rights or voting entitlements of existing grower members and GrainGrowers remains firmly grower led."
Members will also vote in the Western Region Director election, with three candidates standing for the position:
- Rhys Turton (York, WA)
- John Hassell (East Pingelly, WA
- Richard Konzag (Mallala, SA)
“We held a series of member consultations across the country that indicted very strong support for the proposed constitutional amendments.
"As a member-led organisation, it is important that growers actively participate in the election process and have a say in GrainGrowers' governance and leadership," he said.
"Whether it's electing the next Western Region Director or deciding on these proposed constitutional reforms, every member has a role to play in determining the future of their organisation.
"I encourage all eligible members to take part in the vote."
