GrainGrowers has today released two valuable carbon resources to assist growers in building a deeper understanding of the issues impacting the industry.
Launching the resources at Innovation Generation, GrainGrowers General Manager Grower Relations and Thought Leadership Sarah Hyland said the resources were designed to build knowledge as part of a carbon collection.
Ms Hyland said the resources had been developed to build on the foundation of earlier work undertaken on carbon and croppingand carbon calculators compared, covering topics such as carbon credits and carbon and co-benefits.
“The suite of work undertaken by GrainGrowers has been designed to build industry knowledge in this area and enhance the profitability and sustainability of Australian growers.
The Carbon and Co-Benefits resource covers the broad issue of carbon farming - outlining what it is and how carbon farming practices can deliver a variety of co-benefits for growers. The resource explains the meaning of emissions avoidance, , carbon sequestration, carbon neutral and net zero.
Ms Hyland said the resource provides information that allows growers to understand the system, the processes and where the values are for them in their farming operations.
The Carbon and Credits resource provides a comprehensive step-by-step guide to the Australian Carbon Credit Unit (ACCU) Scheme, including a practical case study.
Ms Hyland said earning Australian Carbon Credit Units requires an understanding of the methods and the regulatory framework and how they apply to a specific operation and approach.
“What we have done is to draw together the information that tells what the steps are and answers questions applicable to the Australian grains industry.”
“The resources now gathered together in our carbon collection present a very practical and targeted collection that aims to demystify and provide some sensible, practical advice to growers looking to understand the issue and how it can be applied to their farming operations.”
