GrainGrowers Welcomes National Bioenergy Feedstock Strategy
GrainGrowers has welcomed the release of the Australian Government's National Bioenergy Feedstock Strategy, which recognises the critical role Australian agriculture will play in supporting the development of Australia's low carbon liquid fuels industry.
The development of a domestic low carbon liquid fuel industry presents a significant opportunity for Australian grain growers, with the potential to create new markets for agricultural products, strengthen regional economies and support Australia's fuel security. Ensuring growers are able to participate in and benefit from these emerging opportunities must remain a central focus of industry development.
The Strategy specifically acknowledges the importance of feedstock producers in building a sustainable bioenergy sector, which GrainGrowers has strongly advocated for throughout the policy development process. Recognising growers as key participants in the supply chain is essential to ensuring the long-term success and scalability of the industry.
The Strategy also highlights the importance of ongoing collaboration between growers, industry, researchers and governments to unlock the full potential of Australia's bioenergy and low carbon liquid fuels sector. To support this objective, it identifies five priority areas for collective action:
- Improving data to underpin investment.
- Investing in innovation to advance feedstock readiness.
- Regional supply chain development to drive efficiencies.
- Sustainability and certification to create public confidence.
- Building sector capability
GrainGrowers looks forward to continuing to work with government and industry stakeholders to ensure Australian growers are well positioned to capture the opportunities arising from a domestic low carbon fuel industry.
