GrainGrowers Director Fiona Marshall recently joined the National Farmers Federation on a Trade Diversification Visit to Indonesia.
Indonesia is one of Australia’s biggest grain export markets and the visit was an opportunity to strengthen the relationships between Australian growers, exporters and Indonesian customers.
It has a market of 285 million people, with two-way agricultural trade valued at $5.5 billion annually.
The delegation visited feedlots, dairies, large ingredient importers and the Ministry of Agriculture to explore opportunities to further strengthen ties between the two nations.
One area of particular interest was high energy cattle feed for the growing national dairy herd as customers look to trial incorporating grain into their feed ration.
“There was a lot of interest in the Australian grains sector throughout the visit, which gave us a chance to discuss opportunities and challenges going forward,” Ms Marshall said.
“More broadly, the exchange was a great opportunity to help us better understand how our grain can continue to partner with Indonesia to ensure regional food security and long-term economic growth.”
