GrainGrowers has this week announced the appointment of Alan Meldrum as the new Western Australia (WA) Regional Coordinator for the national member-based grain farmer organisation.
GrainGrowers Deputy Chair and Coorow farmer, Rod Birch congratulated Alan on the new role.
“On behalf of GrainGrowers I welcome Alan to the GrainGrowers team. As a WA grower myself, I know the importance of having a local point of contact to deal with directly.”
“Alan’s experience, networks and extensive industry knowledge make him an ideal fit to drive GrainGrowers engagement with growers and the broader industry here in WA.” said Deputy Chair, Rod Birch.
GrainGrowers’ team of Regional Coordinators spend a lot of time on the road working with growers to identify and address critical industry issues. They’re also on hand to provide information about GrainGrowers Policy, Events and Products and Services.
Alan brings extensive experience in the agriculture sector, providing an appreciation of the grain supply chain, a strong knowledge of crop agronomy across the WA grainbelt and the seasonal risks of grain production.
“I am keen to expand and build on my existing relationships with growers, grower groups and industry groups to ensure that GrainGrowers’ vision to develop and promote a more efficient, sustainable and profitable grains industry helps provide long lasting benefits to WA grain growers” said Alan.
Alan most recently held the position as the sole representative for Pulse Australia in Western Australia for 11 years and also acted as executive officer for the Grains Industry association of WA (GIWA) Pulse Council. Since 2010 Alan has assisted with the compilation of the GIWA Crop Report.
As the new Regional Coordinator, Alan will replace Ray Morgan who announced his retirement in early December after 5 years helping establish GrainGrowers presence in WA.
