Growers are advised that the late-season use of glyphosate on barley, under emergency use permit (PER82594), is no longer allowed due to the permit’s expiry on 31 July 2019.
Grain Producers Australia (GPA) advised industry this week that they have applied to the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) for an extension to the existing PER82594 permit. In addition, an Item 25 (technical evaluation) application for late season glyphosate application in barley (except malting barley) has been lodged by GRDC with the APVMA, including a letter of support from Bayer Crop Science (Australia). It is unknown if the permit application will be successful, or when APVMA will communicate their decision. A copy of GPA’s media release is available here.
In July, the GrainGrowers National Policy Group (NPG) discussed the expiry of the glyphosate minor-use permit for barley. NPG agreed to support the implementation of a permanent label for late-season use of glyphosate on Barley 1 (feed barley). Read an update from this meeting here.
